“Yoga
with yohm during my third pregnancy put
me in touch with my changing body and my
new baby in ways I had never experienced
in my previous pregnancies. The pregnancy
yoga teachers yohm sent me were adept professionals
with an incredible understanding of my pregnant
body. Their knowledge was outstanding and
the yoga heaven sent and gentle. They truly
made the experience, as did not having to
leave the comfortable surrounds of my own
home to practice. I suffered little from
depression as I had done previously, I felt
much more comfortable in my body through-out
the term of my pregnancy and found I was
able to intuitively bond with my baby which
led to a much calmer, happier baby and birth.
- It was so surprisingly pleasant, we’ve
decided to attempt a fourth! ”

delivered a very healthy, very happy 7 pound
baby boy named ‘Jack’ on the
5th October 2004. Congratulations!
yohm Yoga and Pregnancy
Yoga at home for mother and baby
From conception until delivery a pregnant
woman’s body and mind undergo a series
of profound changes. Not only does she have
to accommodate a growing foetus, but also
she has to adapt to the concept of motherhood
and all it entails. Bringing a child into
the world is possibly the most significant
event in any woman’s life and certainly
a significant event for her body. The term
‘labour ‘ means hard work, and
most women approach the labour of birth with
some fear and trepidation. Yoga can make your
pregnancy and labour easier, helping you approach
with a feeling of excessive calm and control.
What are some of the benefits to
undertaking regular yoga classes during my
pregnancy?
For pregnant women, the physical benefits
of yoga include improved strength, muscle
tone, posture and balance; suppleness and
flexibility in the entire muscular system;
the stimulation of glands which control hormone
production; increased blood flow and improved
circulation; and excellent breath and mind
control. During Yoga practice as you will
have learnt from yohm’s benefits of
yoga page, the internal organs are massaged.
Furthermore, the stomach exercises and pelvic
floor contractions help to regain the figure
after giving birth. Yoga helps reduce sleeping
problems and insomnia, and it promotes a general
feeling of well being, contentedness, along
with a positive outlook on life – essential
in times of pre and postnatal depression.
When is it safe to begin Yoga classes?
If you have been doing Yoga for sometime,
or are a regular exerciser with no history
of miscarriage, it is in most cases safe to
commence a light yoga routine during the first
trimester. The benefits for an active and
healthy mother -to- be are the opportunity
to start strengthening her body, developing
suppleness and good muscle tone from the outset.
However, if you have not practiced Yoga
before, do not exercise, or have a history
of miscarriage, you should not begin yoga
exercises until the second trimester or after
the 14th week of your pregnancy.
Important
- Regardless
of whether you have done yoga before, or are
starting Yoga for the first time, yohm requires
an essential letter of approval from your
Doctor or midwife before your yohm classes
can begin.
