yohm's Pose of the Month - Coming Out
Coming out of the pose is just as essential
to the pose as going in. Caution and care
must be taken at all times to protect and
preserve the body.
CAUTION:
Injuries caused from unsafe Yoga practice
increased by more than 40% in 2004. Book a
yohm Yoga
Technician and enjoy a safe and beneficial
practice every time.
1. Lower the feet to a
45-degree angle over the head (Similar to
the shape of a 'Nike' tick).
2. Place the hands back
down on the floor behind the back, beside
the body, palms flat. You are going to use
your hands and forearms as 'brakes' to lower
the body.
3. Keeping the head on
the ground at all times, use the hands and
fore arms (your brakes) to lower the body
vertebrae by vertebrae until the full back
is safely back down onto your mat once more.
Engage the abdominal's all the while to avoid
lifting the head as you slowly come down.
4. Finally the legs are
lowered to the floor using the abdominal muscles
again.
When the body is completely and safely back
on your mat, relax in ‘Savasana’
before coming into a counter pose such as
‘The Fish’ other wise known as
‘Matsyasana’ OR gently massage
the spine as you roll the tail bone in small
circular motions, with your knees held in
toward your chest and your entire back in
contact with the floor.
The shoulder stand
is an inverted posture and is therefore ill
advised during menstruation and pregnancy.
Inverted postures reverse the blood flow defeating
the gravity of the body attempting to cleanse
itself during a ‘period’. Inverted
postures are incredibly beneficial at all
other times.
If pregnant
half
shoulder stand is recommended as opposed to
full. Please consult your yohm technician
or email yohm for instruction.
